Konzertdauer: 35-40 Minuten
English translation at the end of the article!

Heute also ihr gefühltes 10.

Kapiert?

For our english speaking readers (translation from Uschi, great work, thanks!):
You may understand that I try to follow closely those artists who have already played an Oliver Peel Session. I want to see how they develop, if they get booked, get CDs out and so on. Vera Gogh from California is no exception; she gave us the honour to play in our living room on July 14th, 2009. Love made Vera stay in Europe over the last summer where she played many gigs in smaller venues and bars, but unfortunately, we were on summer holidays in Germany. A video taken in Spain (by Valerie Heine, Oliver!!!) during that hormone intense period shows Vera’s beautiful body, smartly covered with nothing but her acoustic guitar. You won’t see nipples, but you can use your imagination, and moreover, the song is wonderful! The video has gained cult status on YouTube. And love brought Vera back to the city of love. This must be her 10th show in Paris, but the first time that I see her perform in a public venue. Only few people came, but amongst them were a lot of friends and acquaintances, and Les Disquaires became a kind of living room, too.
It almost felt like Vera was playing just for us. This girl from California was great! She took her versatile voice through all possible keys and atmospheres, from lascivious whispering to shouting out loud, and compelled me immediately. From time to another, her lyrics are vulgar, but the sweet sound of her voice mellows their meaning. If you don’t listen to the words, you might think: oh, what a lovely song ... so peaceful and harmonious. That’s exactly what happpend to me, until Uschi explained me that one of the songs was about oral sex. Sweet Vera is a sly old dog, which is part of her charm. Oh Lord, what a woman! She’s so fascinating, she's the kind of girl who takes men’s hearts by assault. Vera even called cult video artist Vincent "La blogothèque" Moon’s attention – you can see his clip, as well as many other interesting videos, on Vera’s Myspace page. The great thing about Vera, besides her looks, is the fact that you get several singers in one. She can be as vulgar – in a kerky way - as Regina Spektor, has the eroticism of a Marylin Monroe and the earthy, folky ingredient of Alela Diane, who she knows well, by the way, since they are from the same area.
Tonight, Vera performed some very interesting and promising new songs. But we ran out of time because the venue had to close at 10pm. It was dark in there, but the warm songs brought light into our hearts. Ha, that sounds tacky! Vera Gogh is awesome! Got me?
Good night.
